Smile you may at the name Dollywood but this really is something a little bit different. Part fun fair with amazing roller coaster rides; part festival and theatre to country and western music; part museum to local girl made good, Dolly Parton; and part craft fair for local trades. New Orleans

Katrina and Levee – two words which everyone thinks destroyed the city of New Orleans. But make no mistake this city is very much back as a gay destination. You can still party in the gay bars and clubs of the French Quarter from dusk to dawn and back to dusk and several new venues have opened in the past few months. New Hampshire

New Hampshire is one of the smaller yet scenically most beautiful of all the US states. One of the founding Union States, New Hampshire lies on the north-east coast of the US immediately north of Boston and enjoys both a short Atlantic coastal strip and a border with the Canadian province of Quebec. Washington was the first East Coast city to “come out” and now boasts a sophisticated and diverse scene with same sex couples to be seen walking together on nearly every street corner. Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale or Fort La-de da is a more relaxed, less in your face, gay destination than its brash Miami South Beach neighbour. Much of this results from the development of the Wilton Manors area into a gay neighbourhood with over 100 gay owned establishments including shops, neighbourhood bars and restaurants. Key West

Probably the most famous gay destination in the world - a must see! The gay shops and bars are close to Duval Street. Many have back bars in the gardens and a couple of dance clubs - but as the warm night wears on, most people end up on Duval chatting and enjoying life. [more details]

Miami South Beach

Of the 18 mile long Miami Beach, it's South Beach which attracts the gay community - between 5th and 21st streets an estimated 10,000 gay men live - a figure swelled by the incoming visitors. Orlando

As a gay destination Orlando is very much under-rated. Not only is there the early June GayDays week when 125,00 gay men and women descend on the Theme Parks for a weekend of fun but there is a growing number of gay clubs including the spectacular PULSE club. Palm Springs

If we could choose to live anywhere in California, it would be San Diego.
