Dutch Colonial Style or Trendy 21st Century right on the beach.
Some 15 minutes walk south-east of the downtown area of Willemstad but with twice daily shuttles, Avila Beach offers 142 guest rooms in two different styles of accommodation, right on their own private beach. The 21st Century Octagon wing opened in 2006 with its minimalist style, flat screen TV’s and balconies which is where our rooms are situated. The contrasts with the traditional Belle Alliance wing room with a Dutch colonial style and is the favoured residence of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands when she visits the island.
Each section has its own private beach for swimming snorkelling and sunbathing. Both are open to all residents and are linked by the Blues Bar – the jazz spot in Curacao – at the end of a small pier. There are three further bars and three restaurants. The infinity pool and surrounding terraces overlook the Octagon Beach.
The hotel has a strong historical connection. The Reception Building was once the Governor’s House and the unusual Octagon shaped building – from which this section of the hotel derives its name – was the home to explorer Simon Bolivar in the early 19th century.
