Neo-Classical Victorian style within walking distance of San Jose.
The Britannia is situated some six blocks from the downtown area in the Barrio Amon, one of San Jose’s oldest neighbourhoods famed for its local architecture.
The hotel itself is two buildings – a former 1910 home and a four storey modern block built in the 1990’s. Our standard rooms are in the new block whereas de-luxe rooms are in the original building and are larger, enjoy higher ceilings, air conditioning and a workspace. The suites have two double beds plus a sofa bed and are suitable for up to 5 adults.
High ceilings, original walls of thick brick arches and stained glass windows characterise the warm Victorian atmosphere of the Britannia which contrasts sharply with the tropical flower gardens. The cellar of the original building hosts the restaurant and bar.
Rating and advising on hotels around the world is a tricky business as standards and facilities vary so widely not to mention issues such as décor style, service levels and location with particular relevance to gay amenities.
We don’t pretend that we have got this right but our Pink Triangles are our attempt to give a personal assessment to enable comparisons to be made between the various properties in an area which we feature. Couple this with price and our hotel descriptions and you should be able to make a reasonable assessment.
