Located on the outskirts of the Reykjavic, this former airport hotel for Iceland’s original airport was built in the 1950’s but refurbished in 1999. Don’t worry about aircraft noise as the airport is now used solely for daytime turboprop domestic flights. It’s a large hotel with 220 rooms and is popular with coach parties but it still offers a great value place to stay close to the City. It’s the only hotel in Reykjavic with its own swimming pool.
A pleasant summer’s evening activity is to make the 20 minute walk across the park from the central area of the City back to the hotel, enjoying the light evenings and stunning views. Alternatively the hotel offers a shuttle bus service or taxis are readily available.
Our Deluxe rooms are located in the newly renovated south wing and enjoy views of either the Nauthólsvík recreational area or towards the centre of Reykjavík. They have wooden floors and new furnishings and the benefit of wireless internet access.
Rating and advising on hotels around the world is a tricky business as standards and facilities vary so widely not to mention issues such as décor style, service levels and location with particular relevance to gay amenities.
We don’t pretend that we have got this right but our Pink Triangles are our attempt to give a personal assessment to enable comparisons to be made between the various properties in an area which we feature. Couple this with price and our hotel descriptions and you should be able to make a reasonable assessment.
