Blessed with one of the world's most beautiful natural harbours, Sydneysiders have graced it with two amazing structures – the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Just so you don’t miss all this, the harbour ferries, forming an integral part of the city transport system, offer spectacular close-up views.
If ferries make you a little queezy, they have even developed the Circular Quay area with cafes, shops and bars for you to sit outside and people watch whilst sipping a chilled local chardonnay. And as if that isn’t enough, Darling Harbour offers just as much with the Australian National Maritime Museum, an IMAX theatre and the Sydney Aquarium only 5 minutes away by ferry.
Sydney and much of New South Wales enjoys a sub-tropical climate. Summer from October until March has warm sunny days up to 27C with winter, June until August, being cooler with temperatures up to 18C. Most days are sunny, with few wet days even in winter.
Here are our top must do’s:
• Climb the Harbour Bridge and take in a concert at the Opera House.
• Ride the monorail above the busy city streets or the Manley Ferry across the harbour.
• Walk the cliff top path from Bondi Beach to Tamarama Bay - we can't think why it has the nickname Glamarama!
• Shop in the original Grace Bros store – the inspiration for Are You Being Served?
• Dine in the Sydney Tower Restaurant – tacky? Yes, but the view is amazing.
• Experience the Outback with a trip to the Blue Mountains or hug a koala at Featherdale Wildlife Park.
• Or simply walk, shop, cruise, eat and talk your way down gay Oxford Street
Enjoy the superb all year round weather and an environment where same sex couples can walk down the street holding hands and no-one bats an eyelid! So you wonder why any gay man or lesbian ever bothers to leave!
But it's a pity to travel all this way and not explore more of Australia. The great towns of Melbourne and Perth or the Great Barrier Reef at Cairnsand the Sunshine Coast at Noosa. Ayers Rock makes an easily arranged side package and is not to be missed.
