Twenty years ago, Jacob Gelt Dekker, a successful gay Dutch business man, purchased the run-down Willemstad suburb of Kura Hulanda and re-housed the previous residents. He then converted the narrow cobbled streets and squares of 19th century houses into an 82 roomed hotel will all the ambience and charm of a local village yet only five minutes walk from Willemstad harbour and the downtown area.
Swim in the eco-pool with its waterfall and grotto surrounded by natural rock formations or the quieter Bolivar Pool with its palm shaded terraces, sip a cappuccino in the village square or marvel at the statues of former residents scattered around the village. Enjoy your buffet breakfast in the Marble Square before strolling round the Astrolab and enjoy your dinner in one of the many village speciality restaurants.
The hotel offers a complimentary 10 minute shuttle to its beach club at Blue Bay where sun lounges and shady palms surround a magical Caribbean Bay or to its Lodge on the north-west coast.
Your guest room will be in one of the former resident’s homes, now beautifully refurbished with mahogany and teak furnishings, air conditioning and all modern amenities. All rooms enjoy the same amenities but we’d suggest upgrading to a larger room or suite if you are on a longer stay. We’d also recommend the breakfast option which saves over 15% on purchasing locally.
