Some 15 minutes walk south-east of the downtown area of Willemstad but with twice daily shuttles, the heart of the Avila Hotel is a beautiful Dutch Colonial style mansion built around the end of the 18th century and once the Governor’s House. In the 1960's it became a hotel and the pastel coloured La Belle Alliance wing was added to reflect the Dutch Colonial style. Shortly afterwards, the Blues Wing was added with rooms overlooking the Ocean and the Blues Bar – THE jazz spot in Curacao. In 2006, the contemporary Octagon wing was added representing the crowning achievement of the hotel as it transformed itself into a contemporary luxury resort & spa.

Our allocation of rooms is in the Octagon wing which takes its name from the adjoining Octagon shaped building which was the home to explorer Simon Bolivar in the early 19th century. They have a minimalist style, balconies with partial garden/ocean views, walk-in shower stalls, air conditioning, flat screen television, telephone, hairdryer, Frette bathrobes, in-room safe, mini bar, complimentary internet connection, voicemail and coffee maker. Please request your choice of one king-size bed or 2 twin-beds.

There are three seperate beaches excluaively for Avila guests, three bars and three restaurants - one of which is the outdoor Avila Cafe where the highly recommended Breakfast Buffet is served. The infinity pool and surrounding terraces also overlook the Octagon Wing Beach.

The Avila Hotel is welcoming of gay men and women, either alone or as couples and is an active IGLTA member. It makes an ideal place for that special holiday such as a honeymoon. Larger rooms in other Wings are available on request.
