The jewel in the Gay Mediterranean’s crown Tel Aviv offers something for every gay or lesbian traveller less than five hours flying time away and with just a two hours time change.
The mild winter climate makes for an outdoor life with plenty of pavement cafes and world class restaurants to tempt your appetite. Amble around Neve Tzedek, the original centre when Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 checking out the many small boutique shops and restaurants and enjoying the gay friendly welcome you’ll receive everywhere. Or head to the south and Jaffa, now almost a suburb of Tel Aviv where recent re-generation has led to an artist’s colony with many small galleries and an amazing flea market.
Stroll the Boulevard Rothschild with its 1920’s and 30’s Bauhaus architecture or the two mile long beach promenade looking due west out over the azure Mediterranean. To the north is Hilton Beach where the boyz take the sun and the cabanas are a great place to chill out and watch the sunset.
Then Tel Aviv’s diverse night life opens up with a wide variety of world class gay dance clubs to check out, numerous restaurants and bars and of course three saunas.
If that is not enough, head out of the City to discover the diverse cultures of this land – its history, its archeology and its customs. Head north to Caesaria and learn how this Roman city has been ravaged and pillaged in the past only to re-emerge as a 21st century high tech town. Or to Acco, another city now being excavated and re-discovered under a modern town on the bay of the Eastern Med’s largest port of Haifa. Head east to visit the towns of the biblical stories or swim and float in the Dead Sea the lowest point on earth.
Amazing? Surprising? Different? Tel Aviv is all of these in an environment where gay couples walk the streets openly holding hands enjoying life to the full.
