Europe, Madrid
This baroque Gran Via Hotel is in the main shopping area.
The Best Western Atlántico Hotel, designed in 1921 by the famous D. Joaquín Saldaña y López, is situated on one of the main streets between old Madrid and the modern north district. It is conveniently situated in Central Madrid on the busy Gran Via, and within walking distance of many shops, the Puerta del Sol and the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museums. Chueca with its gay bars and clubs is just minutes away.
Built originally as residence for a marquis, the building has been a hotel since 1932. Its elaborate façade is a familiar landmark on this well-known, bustling road. It offers a friendly, relaxed feel, having been run by the same family for the past two generations.
The 90 guest rooms are spread over 9 floors, with rooms overlooking the street or an interior patio area. Unlike many central Madrid hotels, rooms here are relatively spacious and the décor is bright with light coloured walls and fresh floral or traditional fabrics that reflect the building’s history. Each room is air-conditioned, and has its own private tile and marble bathroom with bath/shower combinations.
This is a truly beautiful hotel, and would be ideal for those wishing to be close to all that the city has to offer and stay in a building, which contributes to Madrid’s famous architectural history.

Rating and advising on hotels around the world is a tricky business as standards and facilities vary so widely not to mention issues such as décor style, service levels and location with particular relevance to gay amenities.
We don’t pretend that we have got this right but our Pink Triangles are our attempt to give a personal assessment to enable comparisons to be made between the various properties in an area which we feature. Couple this with price and our hotel descriptions and you should be able to make a reasonable assessment.
