Alicante is the largest town on the Costa Blanca and boasts a varied and diverese gay scene. Synonymous with the hedonistic resort of Benidorm, the Costa Blanca is strictly speaking the coastline of the Province of Alicante facing eastwards on to the Mediterranean Sea.
It’s an area of deep contrasts with a developed tourism infrastructure along the coastal strip, a flat verdant plain which supports vineyards and agriculture all backed by a range of hills providing excellent walking opportunities. Scattered throughout the province are a multitude of typically Spanish rural villages which tourism has passed by and where a tapas and wine lunch will cost no more than a handful of euros.
The beaches in this part of Spain are of magnificent clean yellow sand washed by the tide. Many front natural dunes and there is always a chiringuito beach bar for a cooling drink. Many beaches welcome nudity and there are stretches popular with gay men at La Marina and again in Santa Pola as well as small area in Benidorm itself.
Besides Alicante, both Benidrom and Elche support gay bars, clubs and saunas which are welcoming to foreign visitors. They are all great fun for a night out. but do check the timings as many do not open until very late.
