Washington was the first East Coast city to “come out” and now boasts a sophisticated and diverse scene with same sex couples to be seen walking together on nearly every street corner. Originally centred around Dupont Circle, gay owned bars, restaurants and clubs still continue to attract gays and lesbians to this area which is just three blocks from our hotels.
Whist New York may have the buzz and Boston the history, there is no doubt that Washington has the style from magnificent monuments and buildings to world class museums. Spend time taking in the National Mall which links the famous sights of Capitol Hill and Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial and The White House with The Washington Monument at its intersection. Then go back when it is dark for a magical show when the buildings are floodlit.
Take a boat trip along the Potomac River and see everything reflected in the tidal basin and then head over into Virginia to the Arlington Cemetery and the burial place of JFK.
And don't forget to visit the Smithsonian Institute. A whole range of museum galleries - we particularly like the First Ladies gallery where gowns from every President’s wife back to George Washington are displayed.
