Key West

Probably the most famous gay destination in the world - a must see! The gay shops and bars are close to Duval Street. Many have back bars in the gardens and a couple of dance clubs - but as the warm night wears on, most people end up on Duval chatting and enjoying life.

Don't forget Key West's other daily party. As the sun sets, visitors and locals gather together in Mallory Square to watch the sun go down. The locals provide the entertainment and party atmosphere with visitors applauding at the right moment and giving a big cheer as the sun finally sets.

Finally, if you tire of the good life, why not board the fast ferry down to the Dry Tortugas and visit Fort Jefferson a huge brick fort guarding the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico. Never used in anger, the fort provides an insight into life in the Keys before modern amenities. There is a great beach and some interesting snorkelling around the fort's outer walls.

Key West is literally at the end of the road - the Overseas Highway goes no further! The 150 mile US 1 highway south from Miami and out into the Gulf of Mexico is one of the five great drives in the United States, so take your time. Alternatively, fly direct into Key West's local airport and take a taxi to your accommodation. A car isn't really necessary as parking can be difficult at busy times.
