Atlanta
USA Deep South
Few US Cities have surprised us more than Atlanta. Surely, this is Bible Belt country with rampant homophobia? How wrong can you be? Atlanta has the third largest gay and lesbian population of any city in the US and its Pride is regularly the longest parade in the Union. There is a thriving gay village around Midtown and Atlanta is filled with bars and nightclubs that offer something for everyone with dining ranging from Cajun to all international flavours.
There’s a large arts and cultural scene consisting of museums, theatres, symphony concerts and opera, with lots of galleries and fabulous designer boutiques at affordable prices, plus the great new Atlantic Station entertainment and shopping complex. Be sure to visit also some of Atlanta's other attractions like the Atlanta Zoo, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site, or Jimmy Carters Presidential Museum. Enjoy a narrated guided tour of Atlanta on a nostalgic trolley and of course, visit the World of Coke - the drink Atlanta brought to the world.
And don’t forget to experience Atlanta’s hottest shopping destination in the suburb of Buckhead – the crown jewel of the city. All that's fabulous to buy, eat, see or do is in there – from the eclectic to all out glitz, with restaurants to match!
Atlanta's MARTA mass transit is very efficient and as the centre of gay life begins in Midtown and proceeds north through Piedmont Park & Cheshire Bridge Road, we don't recommend a rental car although it's easy to pick one up at the end of your city stay if you wish to explore more of the Deep South.
Atlanta is a cool city with a hot scene and a laid back style, so let yourself go and step into the heat
