With its vibrant street culture, gay community and population of artists, actors and musicians, Melbourne leads Australia with 8.8% of couples same sex – higher even than San Francisco with 5.4%.
However, a quick look through BNews – the Melbourne lesbian and gay newspaper, simply confirms that here there is plenty of action not only on the stage but also in the bars and clubs. These are mainly located in two neighbourhoods, Fitzroy a short walk from our Adelphi Hotel or St Kilda/Prahran close to The Prince hotel.
Don’t forget St Kilda beach and the many others which attract their fair share of the body beautiful but Melbourne is essentially an intellectual city where the beauty takes a slightly back seat.
Melbourne's MIDSUMMA Lesbian and Gay Festival held in late January / early February reflects this strong interest in the Arts and Culture with many events held at the new Melbourne Arts complex.
But to remain in the City is to miss out on the stunning surroundings. We can arrange winery tours to South Yarra; or a day out to spa country at Daylesford. Or why not drive the Great Ocean Road along the rugged and spectacular south west coastline with the hood down – BMW roadsters available for rent!
Melbourne and the State of Victoria enjoy a temperate climate with four seasons although summer is December through March with winter in June and August. Summer temperatures vary between a pleasant 25C with lows of 14C whilst winter temperatures are in the 15C to 6C range. Most days are sunny, with few wet days.
