Fort Lauderdale has started to take over from Miami South Beach and Key West as the gay mecca of South Florida. A more relaxed, less in your face, celeb destination than its brash Miami South Beach neighbour or more gay than even Key West, 175 miles away.
Personality and friendliness count for more than the body beautiful in Ft Lauderdale or Ft La-De-Da as it is sometimes known. Much of this results from the development of the Wilton Manors area into a gay neighbourhood with over 100 gay owned establishments including shops, neighbourhood bars and restaurants.
Throughout Fort Lauderdale, there are gay clubs for all tastes - Dance, Bears, Strippers and Leather Bars. Locally there are Art galleries, great shopping at the Gallerias Mall or Wilton Manor Shoppes, nature reserves and parks and 22 miles of beaches with several gay stretches at 18th St, Sebastian Street and also opposite Terramar and Vistamar streets where all our gay guesthouse properties are located.
And it's all so easy to get to. Direct flights to Miami - around 45 minutes drive away are searchable online or connect from your regional airport direct to Ft Lauderdale - just contact us for best prices. Transfers are easy but we'd recommend you rent a car at surprisingly reasonable rates for at least part of yor stay.
Three hours up the Florida Turnpike (toll) gives you Mickey and the Magic Kingdom or any other of Orlando's theme parks, Two and a half hours up I-95 takes you to the Space Coast and the Kennedy Space Centre. Head south to Miami and you are still close enough for a night out in a South Beach club with only 45 minutes drive home.
